Case Studies in Construction Process Improvement

چکیده
Construction industry reports by Latham [1994] and more recently Sir John Egan [1998], have highlighted the need for the construction industry to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce defects. In particular, the Egan report urged the industry to focus on construction processes as route to these improvements. However, the industry has not had a recognised framework or methodology to base a process improvement initiative on. SPICE is a current research project that is developing an evolutionary step-wise process improvement framework for the construction industry. The research has drawn specifically on the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) which has been used successfully in the IT sector by clients for supplier assessment and by suppliers for process improvement. This paper begins by introducing the SPICE concepts and research to-date which has investigated the validity of the framework and the suitability of the assessment. The paper then goes on to describe four case studies that have been conducted as part of the research.

متن کاملAssessment Optimization of Safety and Health Risks Using Fuzzy TOPSIS Technique (Case Study: Construction Sites in the South of Iran)
Introduction: Safety and health risk assessment in industries is associated with uncertainties due to the variables affecting it. Therefore, in this research, optimizing safety and health risk assessment was investigated in construction sites by combining a multi-criteria decision-making technique (TOPSIS) and a fuzzy system. In the present study, to answer this question, a new method was used ...

Question: How activity-based costing (ABC) can be used as a process improvement tool to integrate with existing simulation techniques? Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore how ABC can be practically used for construction process improvement with the support of discrete event simulation (DES) technique. Research Method: We apply a hypothetical case study on pipe installation inspecti...

Nowadays, the placement of artificial prostheses in human skeleton, etc. is common due to different reasons such as fractures or deficiencies. Prostheses are structures that assist the performance of organs by reconstruction of some body parts through different methods to enable the organ to re-obtain its performance completely or partially and, since the use of external prostheses might lead t...
